Having already introduced the ready meals from Farmer’s Outdoor and Outdoor-Food last year, we certainly can’t leave out the ready meals from Adventure Food. Adventure Food were also kind enough to give us samples of one of their meals and a dessert.
About Adventure Food
The manufacturer of outdoor ready meals is headquartered in Maarsbergen (Netherlands) and also has its products made there. The ingredients come mostly from the Netherlands, France, Belgium and Great Britain. Behind Adventure Food, incidentally, is the Dutchman Hans van der Meulen, so far the only Dutchman with five successful ascents of mountains over 8,000 m. In 1992 he also climbed Mount Everest without supplementary oxygen, and in 1997 he reached the North Pole on a 70-day expedition.
The Adventure Food range
You can easily get a good overview of all the ready meals on offer on the official website. The diet tool is very practical: it lets you filter out meals that you can’t eat for allergy or ethical reasons.
The website also lists the nutritional information for all meals, which is very handy if, for example, you want to put together a precise nutrition plan for longer trips.
Preparing Adventure Food
As is usual with outdoor meals, preparing Adventure Food ready meals is kept very simple. You just open the pouch and remove the oxygen absorber. For everything else, it is enough to bring some water to the boil (380 ml for the Pasta Walnut) and pour it straight into the pouch. So that you don’t have to carry a measuring cup as well, there is a mark showing how far to fill the boiling water. Finally, you just stir the meal well and let it soak for about 8 minutes with the pouch closed.
How Adventure Food tastes
Our test eaters were served the “Pasta Walnut”, and for dessert everyone got to spoon some of the “Mousse au Chocolat”. Of course, everyone has different preferences and tastes when it comes to food.
With the Pasta Walnut, our test eaters were delighted at how much food there really is in the small pouch, and the taste was a pleasant surprise too. They noted that the sauce was not overly tomatoey, which we liked very much. The “Mousse au Chocolat” eaten for dessert also tasted very good and was described as very sweet and chocolatey.
Unfortunately, the photos of the meals don’t look all that great, which was down to an acute lack of cutlery and night falling on us. We promise to do better with the next meals we present.

We found Adventure Food products at Outdoorfoodshop, where a meal costs €4.65. There are also meals for 2 people, but unfortunately these don’t seem to be stocked there.
