Garmin BaseCamp is a new free map management program from Garmin. It is safe to assume that this program for planning and analysing GPS tours will replace Garmin MapSource. BaseCamp is software for managing and creating tracks, routes and waypoints and for exchanging GPS data with a Garmin outdoor GPS. There are a few features that MapSource has and that have not (yet) been integrated into BaseCamp, but in return BaseCamp offers many new features that a lot of users have been waiting for for a long time.
BaseCamp is available as a free download from Garmin
Garmin BaseCamp is free and can be downloaded directly from Garmin. The software now also runs without a MapSource installation. MapSource, on the other hand, still had to be bought; only the updates were provided free of charge.
What is new in Garmin BaseCamp:
- 2D and 3D display of topographic maps
- easy track editing with a move function and correction of individual waypoints
- simultaneous display of a tour’s position on the map and in the elevation profile, or playing back and
“reliving” recorded tours (replay mode) - data transfer to and from the PC optimised for the Garmin Oregon 550 and Garmin Dakota 20 or 10.
- geotagging function
- track transfer without deleting the tracks already on the GPS unit
- now also available for Mac
