The tent Fjällräven has announced under the name Sälka is a further development of the popular Foxlite model. It is a compact tunnel tent for year-round use that will come onto the market in a 1-2 person and a 2-3 person version.
A very practical feature is that the inner and outer tent can be pitched at the same time. This keeps the inner tent dry even in bad weather. Pitching should be very easy in general, too, thanks to colour-coded poles and pole sleeves that allow low-friction insertion, as well as simple attachment to the pole holders.
At both ends of the tent there are large ventilation openings that can be closed completely. Naturally, there are also mosquito nets on the entrance and vent openings, as well as a mesh storage compartment in the inner roof and several storage pockets. An entrance on the long side of the tent lets plenty of light in and provides a good view. The size of the entrance is meant to make getting in and out comfortable.

At 2.9 kg, the Sälka 1-2 is relatively heavy, despite being billed as a “lightweight trekking tent”; the Sälka 2-3 is only just under 200 g heavier at 3.1 kg, but quite a bit bigger. The two tents are certainly not of interest to ultralight hikers, but rather to people looking for comfort who simply feel more at home in a large tent. The manufacturer’s recommended retail price, by the way, is 499.95 and 549.95 euros respectively.
