Magellan has added three new outdoor handhelds to its “eXplorist” product line: the Magellan eXplorist 510, the Magellan eXplorist 610 and the Magellan eXplorist 710.
All three units come with a 3″ colour touchscreen and a 3.2 MP camera with autofocus. Together with the built-in microphone, the camera lets you record photos, videos and voice notes tagged with GPS data. All three are waterproof, of course, and meet the IPX-7 standard.
The Magellan World Edition Map comes preloaded on the device. It covers the complete road network of Western Europe, the USA, Canada and Australia, adds a realistically shaped terrain contour in the background, and includes a number of special functions for trips on the water, in town and out in the country.
The eXplorist 610 and eXplorist 710 also ship with the Summit Series USA maps, which are based on detailed topographic maps (1:24,000). The eXplorist 710 comes with the City Series USA on top of that, which makes turn-by-turn voice navigation possible in the USA.

We do not know the European prices yet, so here are the prices for the American market.

I am not familiar with Magellan’s German map data myself, so I cannot say anything about its quality. Nor do I know which comparable maps the eXplorist 610/710 will ship with for the German market. We have no official information so far, and no details about the European launch either.
