When we set off from our accommodation the next morning, we were greeted by beautiful weather. The day started promisingly and we first walked past the monastery of San Salvador in Cornellana, which was built in the 11th century and is known for its tranquil atmosphere. It was a beautiful moment to see the historic building in the morning sun.

New company on the Camino

On the way out of Cornellana, we met an older couple who were also walking the Camino Primitivo. We walked up the mountain together for a while, with the path initially following the road. At some point, however, the Camino turned off the road and led us onto a narrower path. The older couple decided to continue along the road as they found it easier. We continued on our way and met up with them again later – unfortunately, the decision to follow the road turned out to be a bad one, as they had to walk the whole section back again.

The beautiful path to Salas

The section we took on the actual Camino Primitivo was particularly beautiful. The path led us along a green slope and, with a slight incline, brought us to the charming village of Salas. The landscape was quiet and picturesque, a perfect place to stop for a moment and enjoy the view. Salas is known for its historical heritage and well-preserved buildings. The Renaissance town hall and the numerous churches in particular make the town a real gem in the region. However, we didn’t linger long and continued our hike towards La Espina.

Rain and climbs

It started to drizzle slightly on the way, which made the path a little unpleasant. The Camino Primitivo became steeper and we noticed that the weather was slowly deteriorating. When it really started to rain towards the end of the stage, I had briefly hoped that we would stay dry this time – but stable weather on the Camino Primitivo is a rare exception.

Accommodation in La Espina – Pension Dakar

When we arrived in La Espina, we booked a double room at the Pension Dakar. We had reserved the room via WhatsApp for just €35 – the cheapest double room on our entire trip. The accommodation was located above a small pub, but the noise was barely noticeable and didn’t bother us. The furnishings were a little older, but absolutely fine for the price and very comfortable.

Communication with the staff was only possible via Google Translator, but this worked without any problems. The dinner we received on site was also very tasty and rounded off the day perfectly.
