Kurzeme, often also known as Courland, is one of the historical and cultural regions of Latvia. It is located in the western part of the country and is bordered by the Baltic Sea to the west. The history and culture of Kurzeme are deeply rooted in the past.

Historically, Kurzeme was a central area for various powers. In the 13th century, warriors of the Teutonic Order built castles here and ruled the area as the Duchy of Courland and Semigallia. Over the centuries, Kurzeme was under the influence of various empires, including Poland, Sweden, and the Russian Empire.

The landscape of Kurzeme is characterized by dense forests, gentle hills, and an impressive coastline. The region’s beaches, such as those in Liepāja and Ventspils, are popular among both locals and tourists. In the interior of Kurzeme, one can find traditional villages where old customs and traditions are kept alive.
