This time I’m taking you on one of the most beautiful climbs in the Harz Mountains: the Ahrendsberg (stamp no. 119). The path up is steep, but it’s worth the effort! The breathtaking view over the Oker valley makes up for every drop of sweat. Don’t worry if you’re out of breath after the climb – that’s completely normal. After that, things become much more relaxed. The route follows easy forest paths past the Huneberg diabase works to the Brockenblick refuge. A veritable sea of flowers awaits you here, especially in summer.

After the refuge, the Kötenweg trail leads to stamp point no. 118 Kästehaus. In contrast to my first attempt, I have adapted the path so that you don’t have to climb through the bushes. Near the stamping point, where there used to be a restaurant, you can enjoy a fantastic view from the Kästeklippe. The rest of the route takes us up a steep but well-marked stairway to stamp point no. 117 on the Großer Treppenstein. Here, too, it is worth taking a short detour to admire the impressive granite boulder. Our final destination is Verlobungsinsel (stamp no. 116). The descent is a little more challenging, but the idyllic island is well worth the effort. After crossing a small dam wall, we reach the island and from there we return to Romkerhall, the smallest kingdom in the world.

Tip: It can be difficult to find a parking space in Romkerhall, especially on nice days. The Oker valley is very popular with hikers and climbers. It’s best to plan your tour for early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
