Short hike to the 1692 m high Tunnel Mountain, from where you have a very nice view over Banff and the surrounding area. The trail is very easy to walk and not very demanding, but as you are climbing a mountain, most of the time it is only uphill. The trailhead can be reached in less than 10 minutes directly from the small town of Banff.

Unfortunately, the route is only one way and I am not aware of any options to extend the hike. You are also forced to walk back the same way.

The mountain that is called Tunnel Mountain but does not contain a tunnel

The mountain was called “Sleeping Buffalo” by the locals at the time. In 1858, Tunnel Mountain was renamed “The Hill” by James Hector because it was the smallest mountain in the vicinity of Banff. in 1882, a tunnel was to be built for the railroad, but a different route was later decided upon, but the name remained.
