Drei Annen Hohne – Leistenklippen

The hike starts at the (paid) car park at the station in Drei Annen Hohne. There is also an information point of the Harz National Park administration here.

After crossing the tracks of the Harz narrow-gauge railway and the road, we follow the wide path to the Hohnewiesen meadows. After the meadows we follow the course of the path (keep left)

along the Glashüttenweg to the Trudenstein. The Trudenstein is a rock formation you can climb onto, which offers a fine view. A stamp point for the Harzer Wandernadel is located at the foot of the rock.

Now we can finally leave the wide forest road and follow the small, steeply climbing path that leads us to the Hohnekopf. Once we have reached the plateau after a strenuous ascent, we walk past the Bärenklippe and along the Hohnekamm ridge to the Leistenklippe, which can also be climbed via ladders. The Leistenklippen, too, offer an outstanding view that you should not miss. A stamp point for the Harzer Wandernadel is located at the ascent to the crags.

On this high plateau we find a fascinating, barren landscape with bare granite rocks, between which (now in August) large, heavily laden blueberry bushes grow rampant.

We continue on a narrow path, the Beerenstieg, briskly downhill over many protruding granite rocks and roots into the Hohne valley. Once there, we follow the wide forest road to the left towards the Hohnesteinklippen. After just under 1 km we can leave the unattractive, dusty forest road again and turn right onto a narrow path to one of the largest granite rocks in the Harz, the Ottofelsen. The Ottofelsen can be climbed via very steep metal ladders, which are correspondingly slippery when wet. From here, too, there is another spectacular view. A stamp point for the Harzer Wandernadel is located at the foot of the rock formation.

We walk back along the spur path to the main trail and follow it for about 100 metres. Then we turn right onto a small, rarely used side path. This grassy path is difficult to walk after rainfall and in spring, as it is very boggy. Alternatively, we recommend following the forest road for longer and then continuing via the Ellenbogen Chaussee. On our shortcut we rejoin the Eschweg at the point where we already came out after our descent from the Beerenstieg.

Now we follow the wide, dusty track again for a few hundred metres to the ski hut. From there a small shortcut – a narrow path – leads us back to the main trail, which then takes us past the Forsthaus Hohne forester’s lodge to our starting point, the Drei Annen Hohne car park.
