Berlin High Trail – Stage 7 – From the Friesenberghaus to the Gamshütte

The last demanding stage on the Berlin High Trail – or the first, depending on where you start – stretches over just under 14 km to the Gamshütte. It is peppered with narrow grassy paths and a few short scrambles. There is no wire-rope protection anywhere on the route.

In bad weather the hike can become very dangerous because of the narrow grassy paths and the wet, but even in bright sunshine the sun takes quite a toll on this south-west-facing route. Especially after the snowmelt, the streams along the narrow path, which are harmless in summer, can also become dangerous. Should really bad weather be on the way, you can use one of the various escape routes down. These are well signposted and therefore impossible to miss.

When you set off from the Friesenberghaus, the start is very rocky and easy to walk. Again and again there are somewhat narrower sections. There are, however, no really long ascents or descents on this route. It just keeps going up and down a little.

The food at the hut was very good and the hut warden very friendly. Outside in front of the hut there is a place to take a cold shower. Booking ahead is advisable. We slept in a small 3-person dormitory outside the actual hut, which was very pleasant.
