The short hiking tour through Maligne Canyon is one of the few hikes in Jasper National Park that can be done relatively early in the year, i.e. at a time when other tours are still closed due to snow. In winter, it is even possible to go on guided hikes through the canyon. You can admire the bizarre beauty of the frozen waterfalls. But even in spring and summer, the canyon with its limestone walls and the rushing Maligne River is a worthwhile and relatively easy visit.

How to get to Maligne Canyon

Maligne Canyon is only about 11 km from Jasper and can be reached by car in about 15 minutes. From Jasper, follow Highway 16 towards Edmonton and then turn off onto Maligne Road shortly afterwards. The canyon is well signposted and easy to find.
