Today’s stage of the Kyffhäuser Trail is much shorter at 14 km and takes us past the Panorama Hotel, through Bad Frankenhausen (which is officially the starting point of the trail), along the Barbarossa Caves before heading back across the fields to our car in Steinthaleben. Along the way, you can not only see some sights, but also collect the last 4 touring stamps on the Kyffhäuserweg.

The next morning, we continued along the orchards to the Panoramahotel, where there is also a special stamp for the hiking stamp booklet. The route then took us through the cute village of Bad Frankenhausen. We found the idea of the ladders right at the main entrance, where the path leads along, amusing and the leaning tower also fascinated us. However, we soon headed back uphill out of the village to the nature park station, where the next stamp was waiting.

Incidentally, we were now asked twice to take a detour. We still decided to take the original route each time and the paths were passable. It was pretty cool here, almost like being in the jungle. I hope we don’t fall on our noses and somehow end up in front of a section of the path that we can’t pass. In any case, they had their work cut out to clear the path again.

After the Kattenburg stamping station, which felt like it was in the middle of nowhere, we had two more wonderful “wildlife sightings”. We strolled to the Barbarossa cave and treated ourselves to a cold Coke. Then we walked back along the fields to Steinthaleben, where the car was parked. Of course, we also picked up the last stamp on the way.
