Hiking the Gendarmstien – The Crow Stage No. 3/5

From Brunsnæs to Gammelmark

The third section of the Gendarmstien got off to a leisurely start for us. From the shelter it was only a few steps to the small harbour of Brunsnæs. There we found a public toilet – perfect for filling up on water – and took the opportunity for a long breakfast with a view of the water.

Geese, fields and mysterious stones

After the first few metres on the beach, the trail headed inland. We walked past green meadows where countless wild geese were resting. They were probably gathering strength for their journey south – an impressive spectacle.

In between, the sea reappeared at Busholm before we once again passed fields, farms and shady avenues. Along the way we discovered mysterious stones bearing witness to times gone by, and enjoyed the contrast between open countryside and cool tunnels of trees.

Along the cliffs

Soon we returned to the sea – with views of Skeldevig, the Rørskov forest and the coast near Langballigholz. For me the section at Kragesand was particularly beautiful: the Baltic Sea on the right, the cliffs on the left. At high water you apparently have to take alternative routes here, but on our sunny day it was simply perfect.

Shelter culture in Denmark

Along the way we stopped at a shelter site, where we not only took a break but also found fresh water. I am always amazed at how naturally Denmark provides these free and legal places to spend the night. The expensive trekking sites back home in Germany really can’t compete.

After that the trail continued through Skelde Kobbelskov – past a very basic overnight site. Later it led along the cliffs, where we could once again enjoy stunning views.

Arrival in Gammelmark

In the late afternoon we finally reached Gammelmark. Right on the trail there is a campsite, where this time we even treated ourselves to a room. There we cooked a delicious dinner and raised a glass to Kathi’s birthday at midnight – a lovely end to this stage.
