On this short but crisp circular hike from Blankenburg, we collect three stamps for the Harz hiking pin in less than four kilometers. Our first destination is the Grandfather Rock. We climb a flight of steps and then a rooty path to the stamping point. It’s not all that easy. The actual viewpoint of the Großvaterfelsen is also a few meters further up, and you need to be a little sure-footed if you want to get to the viewpoint. But it’s worth it.

From there, we head back downhill to Blankenburg and to the other side of the main road through the Hirschtor gate. Here the path meanders through the park for a while before heading uphill again to the Luisenburg ruins. There is a strenuous, steep path here and a slightly longer one. I opted for the short and steep one and was then quite happy that it was only downhill back to the car.

The last stamping point is just before the castle gardens, and the last few meters to the car are really nice.
