Easy to walk trail through a narrow canyon with steep walls and a (mostly) dry riverbed. A small detour leads to so-called tanks, rainwater-filled washouts in the rock, which are named after the “Waterpoket Fold”, a fold mountain range that extends to Lake Powell.

Hike in Capitol Reef National Park to Pioneer Register

On the way through the canyon, which in former times was used as a connecting road from “Notom” on the other side of the canyon, there are some engraved names of settlers and soldiers on the walls (“Pioneer Register”). The trail starts from a parking lot at the end of a gravel road of about 3km length, which branches off from the park road (Scienic Drive) about halfway.
