As we left Lugo, we crossed a picturesque bridge and passed a lake. Here we met our pilgrim acquaintance from the third day again – the couple who had tried to follow the road on the way to La Espina.

The Camino Primitivo from Lugo

From Lugo onwards, I had the impression that the Camino Primitivo became much more crowded. This is probably due to the fact that it is only around 100 kilometers from here to the actual destination, Santiago de Compostela. If you want to receive a pilgrim’s certificate (the “Compostela”), you have to have walked at least 100 kilometers on foot on a Way of St. James and have a corresponding number of stamps in your pilgrim’s passport. I can’t say how strictly this is checked – I didn’t have the impression that the pilgrim’s passport was checked particularly closely on site.

It felt like the opportunities to collect pilgrim stamps tripled from Lugo onwards. Every small snack stand, which suddenly appeared in large numbers, also had a stamp for the pilgrims.

The stage – more roads, more people

Despite the beautiful start to the day, I didn’t like today’s stage so much. There was a lot of road walking and the route became increasingly crowded, which somewhat spoiled the peace and quiet that you want on the Camino.

Overnight stay in Ferreira

We spent the night in a really cute hostel in Ferreira, which still looked very new and well-kept. There were wonderful opportunities to sit outside, enjoy the fresh air and chat with other pilgrims or simply relax and unwind. The atmosphere was relaxing and inviting.

We only had to walk a few meters back to a restaurant to eat. However, as we didn’t want to miss out on the culinary discovery, we ate our homemade sandwiches today – a simple but satisfying solution.
