Berlin High Trail – Stage 6 – From the Furtschagelhaus to the Friesenberghaus

We combined two stages in one go, as the distance between the Olperer Hütte and the Friesenberghaus is very short. It was nevertheless probably the most relaxing day of the tour. There were no exposed scrambling sections, and the number of sweat-inducing climbs was limited too.

First we descended towards the Schlegeis reservoir and followed a wide gravel road there until, on the other side, the trail climbed again to the Olperer Hütte. That was probably the only really strenuous part, which is why we took the opportunity to stop for a break there. The hut is very new and, with the view from its panoramic windows, is a great place for a coffee.

The dormitory was very nice and the food delicious. The prices are not exactly cheap, but considering that the hut is supplied by helicopter, they are more than justified. We did not have breakfast there, so I can’t say anything about it. Showers are available too.
