From the Alpenrose the trail climbs steadily towards the Schönbichler Horn, which is quite strenuous. On this stage in particular it was really warm, and we worked up a good sweat. If it looks like the weather is going to be really fine, you should set off as early as possible so as not to be so exposed to the sun. Because of where we had stayed overnight, we took a slightly different route from the one you would take from the Berliner Hütte; after a while, however, the two routes join again.
The last few metres of the trail run along the ridge and are somewhat exposed, as are the last 100–200 m up the mountain, which are secured with a wire rope. More adventurous than the scrambling sections, however, was at times the heavy traffic we encountered on the Schönbichler Horn.
The descent to the Furtschagelhaus is considerably easier, and the wire rope is probably only necessary in bad weather. The descent goes on for a while yet but remains easy throughout.

Checking in worked differently from what we were used to at the previous huts. While at all the other huts it was enough simply to register and order 3 beers, the Furtschagelhaus handled it differently. Each of us had to present ourselves individually with our DAV membership card and pay for the night straight away. We slept in a huge dormitory, the largest I had seen up to that point. The breakfast buffet was very good and definitely worth the money.
