The Weserbergland Trail is a long-distance hiking trail around 225 kilometers long that winds its way from Hann. Münden to Porta Westfalica through one of the most beautiful landscapes in Germany. The trail is well-marked and mainly follows natural paths. Along the way, dense forests, gentle hills, steep cliffs and fertile valleys alternate. The Weser accompanies hikers along much of the route and offers impressive views time and again.

I haven’t walked the whole way yet, so here are my highlights of the trail so far:

On the section from Porta Westfalica to Hameln:

  • Technically speaking, the Weserbergland Trail does not run directly here, but the view of the Kaiser Wilhelm monument from the station alone is impressive. The view from the Porta Kanzel is even more beautiful.
  • The cliff tower with its incredible view.
  • Hohenstein: The steep cliffs offer a fantastic view over the Weser and definitely make up for the strenuous climb up the steps.

Important sources of information

If you are planning a hike on the Weserbergland Trail, you should definitely visit the Nord Süd Trail website. An incredible amount of work has been invested there, and numerous interesting waypoints have been worked out, which makes planning and the hike much easier. I’m happy for you to read through all the content here with me, but you should definitely have a look there too. The Wanderfreund app, which can be found in the Google Play Store and Apple Appstore, is also a great help.
